We are proud to announce our latest machine for steam and hot oil air heaters.

Spiral Fin Tubes.

Spiral Fin

Spiral Fin Tubes

These fin tubes are usually used for steam air heater and hot oil air heaters. This means that either steam or hot oil, depending on the availability of end users facility, is passed through the internal pipes over an array of vertical pipes.

As it progress down, it loses its heat and outside the tube, air is usually passed through the duct and came into contact with the array tubes outside, hence heating up the air. Figure below shows an example of the hot oil air heater.

Hot Oil

Hot Oil Air Heater

The actual hot oil air heater during fabrication of ONE SPIRAL FINS  looks like this.

And after fabrication and spinning of hundreds of spiral fin tubes, they are assembled into a casing and it look likes this.

Tanks in the market used for industrial purposes are usually divided into two major categories:-

a) Totally enclosed tanks, such as those used for storing fuel oil or raw water and,

b) Open topped tanks.

Open and closed tanks are used for a large number of process applications:-

- Boiler Feedtanks. The boiler feedtank is at the heart of the boiler system and it provides a reservoir of returned condensate and treated makeup water for feeding the boiler. Boiler feedtanks are usually operated between 80 Deg C and 90 Deg C.

-Hot Water Tanks. Hot water is required for most of the processes in any industry in the current world. It is often heated in simple, open or closed tanks which use steam as the heating medium, or hot oil or even natural gas direct heating system.

-Degreasing Tanks. Degreasing is the process where deposits of grease and cooling oil are removed from metal surfaces after machining. In a degreasing tank, the material is dipped into a solution which is heated by coils toa temperature of 90 to 95 Deg C.

The below picture shows a washing machine degreasing tank which inject high pressure hot water into the inlet of the product, ie a water tap which comes out hot from the molten state. Then cold air is rush from under to clear off the grease and all dirty particles.

- Metal Treatment Tanks. Metal treatments tanks are sometimes referred to as VATS, are uses in a number of different processes. (a) To remove scale or rust or (b) To apply a metallic coating to surfaces.

- Oil Storage Tanks. Storage tanks are required to hold oils which cannot be pumped at ambient temperatures, such as heavy oil fuel for boilers.

- Water Storage Tanks. For most glove industry applications, water storage tanks and latex storage tanks are usually large tanks to store the huge amount of water or latex within the vicinity, hence these tanks are usually of huge diameter and height.

Here are some our works installing UPVC Piping for ship modules in Laem Chabang Port, Thailand.

These modules are pre fabricated at the dockyard near the port and will be towed to the ship when the ship arrives from their suppliers destination.

Module of the ships

As these modules are used for the process of the oil in the middle of the sea later, these pipes are usually Stainless Steel or Fiber Bond Pipes in order to avoid corrosion as sea water will corrode Mild Steel easily.

Attention all CAH Challengers.

Reminder, coming Saturday, 30th October 2010 is the monthly CAH golf challenge. Pack your bags, swing your clubs and come out and have fun once again at Pattaya Country Club, gun shot at 7.30am.

Just a little reminder here, all challengers and hopefully all of us can cooperate with these simple rules.

a) Please arrive by 6.45am and register early so that we can have a smooth start without hiccups. No drinking the night before, we will drink after the game, OK? Early start, early finish, right? Early finish, early start on the booze.

b) In order not to slow the traffic as we do not want Marshals to come with the red flag, please be reminded that if ball is inside the jungle, spend only 3 minutes instead of 5 minutes regulation. We know what you guys are doing inside the jungle, so 3 minutes is more than enough.

c) We will give one extra prize for golfers who play above 140 points. This one is specially for you.

Time to pick up a new game.

d) Just a reminder, one putter length around the cup is considered a gimme putt.  If you are not sure, use your putter to measure it and if it is within the loop, pick up and add one stroke. Remember, if you putt out, the score counts. Ladies, you can use the flag pole instead of the putter.

e) On a more serious note, please avoid slow play. We still want to enjoy the game but let’s make sure that the group in front is not two or three holes in front.

f) Finally, a gossip magazine is available for sale.

If you want to know who is secretly playing at night and who is still practising using a pitching, please contact K Prapon and the sales will go to the CAH fund so that we can enjoy more booze.

See you all at the golf course and remember, practice hard.

Below shows a sample calculation of a shell and tube heat exchanger.

The purpose of this enquiry is to propose a shell and tube heat exchanger to transfer heat from saturated steam to Crude Oil and HC Gas. Below are the given specifications:-

SPECIFICATIONS     SHELL SIDE                TUBE SIDE

Fluid                               :-        Saturated Steam              Crude Oil

Specific Heat, Cp J/kgK       :         2772                        2577

Thermal Conductivity          :         0.6788                    0.1891

Viscosity   Pa-S                        :         1.335 x 10-5 0.0102

Density   (kg/m3)                    :         5.15                            8.941

Specific Enthalpy                   :         742.6 J/kg

Fouling Factor (Steam)       :         0                                 0.00088

Flow Rate  (kg/hr)                  :         8702                        187,000

Pressure Drop Allowed   (kPa):         50                           50

Temp In/Out (oC)                  :         180/178                       45/80

Calculation of LMTD

TLMTD =       [Tt1 – Ts2 ]  – [Tt2 – Ts1]

Ln [Tt1 – Ts2 ]  /[Tt2 – Ts1]

=       (180-45) – (178 – 80)

Ln (180-45)/(178 – 80)

=       115.5oC

Calculation of Heat Load is based on the outside surface of tube, hence

Q                =       m x Cp x ∆T  (For tube side)

=       (187,000 / 3600) x 2577 x 35

=       4,685,130 W

=       4.679 kW

Estimate of overall Heat Transfer Coefficient Uo

From table, Overall Heat Transfer Coefficient for Steam and Light Oil ranges from 50 – 150 BTU/hr sq ft or equivalent to 284 W/m2 K to 852 W/m2 K.

Taking a value of Uo = 300 W/m2K, Calculate Area required for heat transfer.

Q                      =                 A x Uo x TLMTD

Hence, A     =                 4,685,130 / 300 x 115.7

=                 135 m2

Calculate Shell Diameter using Tube OD = 1” x 2.77mmthk SUS 316L. designing two pass for tube side (U—Tube) 3000mm length  and one pass for shell side.

Dshell =                 0.637 [CL/CTP]1/2 x {[A(PR)2 d]/L}1/2

Where

CL              =                 0.87 for 30 Deg Pitch

CTP            =                 0.9 for two tube pass.

A                 =                 135 m2

L                 =                 3 m

DOD =                 0.0254m

Did              =                 0.01986

Hence,

Dshell =                 0.836m or 836mm.

Calculate No of tubes required

N                 =                 0.785 [CTP/CL][( Dshell)2 /(PR x PR) x dID2

=                 562 Tubes for Two Pass.

Hence One pass    =       282 Tubes.

Select Shell Diameter = 900mm and using 282 nos of U-Tubes.

And hence, the Shell and Tube Heat exchanger is proposed to our customer.

Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger

But then, in addition,  other calculation has to be done to support the data given, eg,

a) Calculate the Overall Heat Transfer Coefficient on the Shell Side

b) Estimate the flow area of Shell Side using Kern Method

c) Calculate Shell Side Pressure Drop

d) Calculate Tube Side Heat Transfer Coefficient

e) Calculate Overall Heat Transfer Coefficient on the Foul Side and Clean side

This calculations are needed to ensure that all the requirements are met. If not the overall Heat Transfer coefficient has to be recalculate using another value and the calculation has to be redone again until all the conditions are met.

Next, the surface of the bearing support Ball Mill has to be machined off for a smooth surface in order to maintain constant speed when it is loaded onto the bearing. Otherwise, the Ball Mill was be operating with bumps during one rotation.

Machining surface of the ball mill support

Meanwhile, the support of the Ball Mill Machine is prepared to wait for the shell to complete.

Ball Mill Support

The front and end cover of the ball mill is also fabricated, ready to assemble to ball mill once it is ready.

Cover for the Ball Mill

Once the ball mill is ready, it is then loaded into the support and touchup is required for the shell and alignment of the body to the support.
